This will be a journey into the universe. It will be a journey for everyone: no prior knowledge of Physics is required, and the mathematical concepts we will use will be familiar to any traveler who has completed first year of high school.
It will be a journey of search: what we will be most interested in is not the answers themselves, but how we arrive at these answers. How do we know what we know about the universe? And how do we find out what we do not know yet? Our first stop will be our cosmic neighborhood, the Solar System.
Our purpose will be to know our home, the Earth, as part of our own corner of the universe. We will talk about heaven as we see it from planet Earth. For the brightest bodies in the sky, the Sun and the Moon. For the fascinating story of the discovery of the laws of nature that govern the motions of celestial bodies, which is at the same time the story of the beginning of the science of Physics.
For the friendly star of our neighborhood, the Sun, which provides us with all the energy that sustains life on Earth and our culture, burning itself with thermonuclear reactions. For the planets, other worlds so different from Earth, and so different from each other. For the great exploration, the journey of the machines made by mankind to the ends of the Solar System, and beyond.
Have a good trip.
