Microsoft has been able to close a major deal with the US Department of Defense (DoD) to provide $ 1,76 billion in software and services over five years.

The five-year "indefinite" contract delivery and unlimited quantity" (IDIQ) has a completion date of January 10, 2024. This contract commits Microsoft to providing an unlimited quantity of services during the period.
The contract allows DoD to pay to Microsoft payment orders, primarily from operational and maintenance funds.
Microsoft's victory comes as DoD continues to evaluate the bids submitted by companies for a $ 10 billion dollar contract, also known as JEDI or Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure. The Pentagon should select only one company in the first quarter of 2019.

IBM has also criticized the "winner gets it all" method of the JEDI contract.
