With the aim of promoting its products through a closer collaboration with the developer community, Microsoft decided to open the code of PowerShell and make it available on Linux and MacOS.

So the company opened the .NET kernel 2014 and released the 1.0 version in June of this year.
The base of the code will be common to all operating systems and will be available under MIT license in GitHub.
