Share a URL via QR code in Chrome and Edge

Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge let you create a QR code for a web address of your choice.

QR

You can create one with a QR code for any website you want. You should just be running Chrome Canary or Edge Canary. The relevant setting also exists in the stable versions of both browsers, but it does not work yet. Only Canary versions currently have this feature.

The beginning was made by Chrome and after two days followed by Edge. Of course we will see it in other browsers that rely on Chromium, such as Opera, Vivaldi, etc.

Η QR code generator will encode a URL you want. You can then read the code with a compatible device, e.g. with your phone camera and share quickly between your devices or your friends.

The feature is activated through a flag from the browser settings. It's still a work in progress, so it's not pre-enabled. If you want to try it see below what you need to do. Again, the steps below assume you have the latest Edge Canary or Chrome Canary installed.

How to activate the QR Code in Microsoft Edge, (do the same in Chrome)

1. Update Microsoft Edge Canary (or Chrome) to the latest .

2. Open Edge and type the following text in the address bar:
edge: // flags / # sharing-qr-code-generator

This will open the flag page directly in the relevant setting.

3. Select Enebled from the drop-down list.

4. Restart Edge by closing it manually. You can also use the Restart button that appears at the bottom of the page.

How to use the generator.
To share a URL via QR Code in Microsoft Edge Chromium, go to the desired page and right-click on it.

1. Select "Generate a QR code for this page". In Chrome you will find it in the menu with the vertical dots. Or, in both browsers, click the new icon in the field with the url.

2. It will be created immediately and you will see the image with the QR code.

3. You can press "Download" to save it, or just read it on your smartphone.
