The famous by clicking here exchange Bitcoin Mt.Gox is offline amid reports that it has suffered a fairly large virtual currency hack.
The Tokyo-based website's URL returns this morning, as reported by the Associated Press.
Meanwhile panic has been created on the other Bitcoin exchange sites that released a joint statement stating that they are working to reassure their customers that the funds are under their control and that the transactions are carried out safely.
The statement mentions the downtime of Mt.Gox should not be considered a reflection of the value of Bitcoin or the digital currency industry in general.
It is a "strategic crisis" claims a rumor circulating in the Internet as an internal Mt.Gox document states that more than 740.000 are missing Bitcoins from the exchange page, which froze all withdrawals earlier this month.
