Fraud with prizes and gifts through Multimedia Services

Information of the Electronic Crime Prosecution Directorate regarding an attempt to exof citizens regarding promised prizes and gifts through Multimedia Information Services (Multimedia)

The Electronic Crime Prosecution Directorate draws citizens' attention to calls to high-rate numbers that they are called upon to make in order to claim prizes and prizes.

In particular, in the last few days, several complaints were registered from citizens who received phone calls, with the caller's details hidden, in which they were informed that they had won multi-day holidays, but in order to claim their prize, they will have to contact the contest organizer by phone using premium numbers (numbers 901XXXXXXXXX).

These incidents already bby the Directorate of Electronic Crime Prosecution, however, in order to avoid the phenomena of deceiving citizens and losing money through telephone bills, the following are highlighted:

  • High-cost telephone calls and the use of Multimedia Information Services (Multimedia) (http://www.eett.gr/opencms/opencms/EETT/FAQS/Faq_YPP.html) entail a particularly high cost of calls and SMS messages (charge per call, per minute or per incoming / outgoing message).
  • Participating in contests of companies with gifts requires accepting the "Terms of Participation", which must be submitted to a notary.

In case you are disturbed by Multimedia Providers. for Multimedia promotion purposes, or you have subscribed to Multimedia. without your consent, you can contact the Personal Data Protection Authority (www.dpa.gr).

If you believe that through a YPF threatened or compromised the confidentiality of your communications, you can contact the Communications Privacy Authority (www.adae.gr).

You can also contact the National Telecommunications and Post Commission (www.eett.gr) for the examination of complaints concerning ensuring the correct information of consumers about Multimedia. and control of consumer billing, when they do not receive , since you have already contacted the Multimedia Providers., but no solution has been found to the dispute between you.
