The Electronic Crime Prosecutor's Office informs citizens that lately it has received complaints about cheating shop owners, which sell, inter alia, prepaid cards, "paysafe", for online purchases.
In particular, complaints by store owners (kiosks, haberdasks, etc.) relate to cases where unknown people have called them and pretending to be either regular clients or employees of companies with prepaid cards have persuaded them to make prepaid cards and let them know by phone the card code.
In some of the cases, the perpetrators claim to be technicians from the company that installed the machineafter issuing the prepaid cards in the stores and in order to verify their correct operation, they ask the owners to issue cards and give them the code, so that they can do the supposedly necessary tests from the supplier's central system companys.
Subsequently, the owners of the shops, after contacting the companies issuing the prepaid cards, finally find that they are being used directly, mainly on online gambling websites or shopping through Internet.
Citizens are requested, on the occasion of such incidents, to be particularly careful in their transactions, to avoid possible fraud. In particular, store owners should not issue prepaid cards over the phone if they have not previously verified the person's identity. Also, they should be careful in any case during the procedure of their transactions with customers.
It is recalled that for similar incidents, citizens can contact the Electronic Crime Prosecutor's Office on the following contact details:
