A federal judge today ruled that a US National Security Surveillance program that collects phone metadata by US citizens is unconstitutional. It is the first official condemnation of NSA's spy actions.
In lawsuits filed against the government by activist Larry Klayman, the US District Judge Richard Leon issued a preliminary injunction restraining the actions of the NSA (collections metadata) to account which Klayman has at Verizon. However, the decision can be appealed by the NSA.
The ruling also said the government must destroy any Klayman phone metadata collected through the preletterof telephone surveillance by the NSA.
