A total of five eset.es subdomains were hacked and defaced by MrD0x, a hacker from Panama. The Eset.es domain belongs to Ontinet, which is its exclusive distributor productof ESET in Spain.
The compromised subdomains are: promos.eset.es, tienda.eset.es, reg.eset.es, gratis.eset.es and demos.eset.es. Currently, defaced pages have been removed from all domains and the websites seem to work properly.
“On October 24, 2013, many subdomains of the Spanish company that has been responsible for distributing ESET products were deformed for a limited time by hackers, exploiting a bug in third-party content,” ESET spokesmen said.
"Our distributor is currently investigating this incident, however, the affected websites quickly came back."
The phenomenon is not unknown. Very often websites that distribute antivirus γίνονται στόχος των hackers που θέλουν να ενισχύσουν τη φήμη τους και να καθιερωθούν στην σκηνή. Αυτό συμβαίνει γιατί στις περισσότερες περιπτώσεις οι ιστοσελίδες δεν είναι τόσο ασφαλείς όσο την by clicking here of the supplier. So while the hacker brags about breaching ESET, in reality this never happened.
