A total of five subdomains of eset.es were hacked and defaced by MrD0x, one hacker from Panama. The Eset.es domain belongs to Ontinet, which is the exclusive distributor of ESET products in Spain.
The compromised subdomains are: promos.eset.es, tienda.eset.es, reg.eset.es, gratis.eset.es and demos.eset.es. Currently, the defaced pages have been removed from all domains and the websites they seem to work properly.
"On October 24, 2013, several subdomains of the Spanish company responsible for the distribution of ESET products were defaced for a limited time by hackers, who exploited a error that was present in third-party content,” ESET representatives said.
"Our distributor is currently investigating this incident, however, the affected websites quickly came back."
The phenomenon is not unknown. Very often websites that distribute antivirus are targeted by hackers who want to boost their reputation and establish themselves in the scene. This is because in most cases the websites are not as secure as the by clicking here of the supplier. So while the hacker brags about breaching ESET, in reality this never happened.
