You want to remove the SIM card from your mobile phone but you don't have the special bit tool with you; Release your inner MacGyver in these 6 ways.
Despite being just a fictional character from a TV show, MacGyver was a hero to many kids growing up in the 90s. In each episode, to get out of the predicament, he used only things he found around him. We want to bring out this MacGyver in you if you find yourself in the difficult position of wanting to remove a SIM card from a mobile phone and you don't have the special metal tool with you.
We will make sure that you do not disappoint your beautiful partner, as in the movie, and we will show you a list of everyday tools that can be used to extract the SIM card from a smartphone.
Note: If you ever resort to opening a SIM card holder using any of the tools listed here, make sure you do so carefully. Use your common sense and do not harm yourself and your phone! Also, make sure that you push the tool into the correct hole in your phone, not where the microphone is.
Using a paper clip, pin or board pin
The humble paper clip that you can find on every desk is one of the best alternatives. Just bend one of its ends and you're good to go! Because there are many types of connectors, make sure you use one that is thin enough to fit into the hole in the phone. Press gently so that it opens door and the metal does not warp.
Alternatively, a pin or bulletin board pin could do the job, but these are usually too thick to fit most holes in the SIM card slot. We used it successfully on an iPhone XS, but it could not fit on the Galaxy S9 or the Google Pixel 3.
Using a safety pin or a pin
Pins and pins (and needles do) are an essential part of any sewing kit, and logically they are present in every home, in the rooms of good hotels, etc. It is also not uncommon to find a safety pin on the clothespins we just bought. Find the right size for the hole, and just be careful not to accidentally drill when using it.
Using one earring
Politely ask your beautiful escort, you know now ... with the air of mystery and of a person who knows what she is doing, to give you one of her earrings. Most of them are placed in a hole in the skin or on the tongue, and have a pin and a better safety. Again as above, not all earrings are thin enough to fit the SIM hole, but it's okay to try. Just be nice not only to your escort, but also to the phone when you're pushing it. You don't want to ruin a piece of jewelry, do you?
Using a stapler
One of the less obvious substitutes for the SIM card opening tool is in your stapler. If you gently press the stapler head, only one stapler should come out in half, without bending its ends. Pull it gently and use it to remove the SIM card holder.
Using a mechanical pencil
The thin piece of nose from a mechanical pencil, like the one shown, can actually pull out the SIM card holder. However, consider this method as a last resort, as the nose is fragile and you do not want any chips to end up accidentally inside your phone. Most importantly, be careful when applying pressure to minimize the chance of the nose breaking.
Using a toothpick
Finally, using a thin toothpick works just as well as some SIM card holders, but again, don't use it unless you're desperate. The wood breaks easily and you don't want debris stuck inside the SIM card hole.
