It took several weeks before the Office of the Personnel Directorate of USA (Office of Personnel Management or OPM) admitted that nearly 22 million personnel and security files had been leaked in two separate attacks.

For the sake of a total of about 11 million files the 5,6 million have been stolen.
OPM's justification for this delay was that the Department of Defense was conducting an “analysis of the data that have been affected to verify their quality and completeness.”
Government experts believe that "the potential for misuse of fingerprint data is limited." Is true;
OPM states:

It is known, however, that fake fingerprints are not only used in movies and TV shows to circumvent security. It's not just imagination, it's a reality. From the availability of the first iPhone to the TouchID, fingerprint scanners have come to the forefront of our lives.
Reproduction of false fingerprints is simple and can be used daily. For example, Marc Rogers, Cloudflare Security Investigator, proved how easy it was to violate Apple's TouchID on two iPhone (5S and 6). With the actual fingerprints, such as those stolen by hackers, theft will be play.
The OPM and US Department of Defense flagship reminds us that the files stored for biometric security measures can not be changed as with a password in case of leakage after a hack.
