Ukraine war has already begun

The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU from the Security Service of ) δήλωσε σήμερα ότι η χώρα είναι στόχος ενός συνεχιζόμενου "κύματος υβριδικού πολέμου", που προσπαθεί να ενσταλάξει άγχος και να υπονομεύσει την εμπιστοσύνη της ουκρανικής κοινωνίας στην ικανότητα του κράτους να υπερασπιστεί τους πολίτες της.

"Ukraine is faced with hacks aimed at systemically sowing panic, spreading false information and distorting the real state of affairs," SSU reports.tank

SSU added that it had to deal with many such attempts starting with hostile intelligence services and bot fleets targeting social networks and the media.

"The SSU observes τέτοιες εκδηλώσεις υβριδικού πολέμου στα κοινωνικά δίκτυα, σε ορισμένα μέσα μαζικής ενημέρωσης, στη διάδοση ειδήσεων για το κράτος κ.λπ."

Last week, the Ukrainian government security agency dismantled two botnets which were linked to Russian special services and controlled 18.000 social network accounts.

The botnets were used to spread fake news that spread panic and sent bomb threats that would fall en masse across the country.

On February 1, the Ukrainian Computer Emergency Response Team also warned of against the Ukrainian authorities, coordinated by the Gamaredon hacking group (backed by Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB).

A day later, the SSU reported that it had blocked more than 120 attacks targeting information systems of Ukrainian state institutions.

Microsoft also reported on 4 February that Gamaredon launched a phishing wave targeting organizations in Ukraine.

The Redmond security researchers added that the ongoing cyber campaigns by the hacking group Gamaredon is coordinated from Crimea, confirming the SSU's assessment that these are FSB officers.
