Color Pantone 448C is considered to be the worst color in the world, according to a survey conducted in Australia, and it is rather easy to understand why. It remembers dirt.
But can it be a scary color to quit smoking? Well, Australia and the United Kingdom will begin to cover packs of cigarettes with this color, hoping that this will help the campaign against smoking.
According to a report from the Smithsonian, a research agency in Australia asked over 1.000 smokers ages between 16 and 64 in 2012 and found that this color (Pantone 448C) reminded them of “dirt.” Thus, the Australian commission approved it to be used in cigarette packaging.
The United Kingdom introduced similar legislation in May, declaring that Pantone 448C will be the primary color on nearly 60 percent of cigarette packaging and that commercial signalthey should use basic fonts, and sizes.
On May 31, in honor of "World No Tobacco Day," the World Health Organization (WHO) urged countries to consider adopting plain packaging, citing the movement of Australia as they will thus contribute to the steady reduction of smoking.
"Plain packaging reduces their appeal productof smoke. It kills glamour, which is appropriate for a product that kills people," said WHO Director-General Dr Margaret Chan.
