New updated SMPlayer 16.6.0

The SMPlayer development team has announced the availability of SMPlayer 16.6.0. The new update brings exciting news on all supported platforms.

SMPlayer is an open-source, cross-platform and media player that works on Windows and Linux systems.SMPlayer 16.6.0

As its name suggests, SMPlayer is based on MPlayer project, which means it supports all known audio and video formats. The new version, SMPlayer 16.6 uses the latest Qt5 technologies, ultimately delivering the highly anticipated support for high DPI (HiDPI) displays.

For Linux users, the HiPI setting is off by default, so after upgrading SMPlayer to 16.6.0, you can enable it by Settings. Note that HiPI support requires Qt 5.4 or later.

Another exciting new feature coming with the new SMPlayer 16.6.0 is support for modern 2-in-1 displays, especially on systems running Windows 10. Users can install SMPlayer 16.6 and enable the new “tablet mode” from the options menu. This way they will be able to manage the app media using the device's touch screen.

SMPlayer 16.6.0 also supports streaming video streams on an external monitor that is connected to your computer. The setting can be activated from the Video menu.
