The SMPlayer development team announced the availability of SMPlayer 16.6.0. The new update brings exciting new features to all supported platforms.
SMPlayer is an open-source, cross-platform and free media player that runs on Windows and Linux systems.
As its name suggests, SMPlayer is based on MPlayer project, which means it supports all known audio and video formats. The new version, SMPlayer 16.6 uses the latest Qt5 technologies, ultimately delivering the highly anticipated support for high DPI (HiDPI) displays.
For users on Linux, the HiDPI setting is disabled by defaultchoice, and so after upgrading SMPlayer to version 16.6.0, you can enable it from Settings. Note that HiDPI support requires Qt 5.4 or higher.
Another exciting new feature that comes with the new SMPlayer 16.6.0 is support for modern 2-in-1 monitors, especially on systems running Windows 10. Users can install SMPlayer 16.6 and enable the new "tablet mode" from the options menu. This will allow them to manage the media player using the device's touch screen.
SMPlayer 16.6.0 also supports video upload streams to an external display connected to your computer. The setting can be activated from the Video menu.
