Microsoft has released a new AI tool called Pix2Gif that converts still images into animated GIFs for free.
Microsoft's research team presented a new AI tool that it's called Pix2Gif and which can turn a still image into an animated GIF. The difference with the other corresponding models is that in Pix2Gif together with the original photo you can also give a verbal prompt to edit the image and the resulting result.
Generally, to make a GIF animation, you needed a few images that you put together and all together make a GIF. Microsoft's new Pix2Gif AI model simply converts a single still image into a GIF.
Pix2Gif is still in development and you can try its demo by either downloading it open source it to your machine from Github, either "playing" from here.
You should give it an image and in the field “Edit Instruction” a prompt in English on how to handle the image. Then click on “Generate GIF”. It will take a few seconds and the GIF will be generated based on your prompt from the still image.
The tool spatially transforms the source image and creates a GIF ensuring coherence and consistency. The model is based on Stable Diffusion, but comes with a new motion guidance unit.
The AI model will understandably improve over time and can help create videos from still images.
