On Saturday, Pokemon GO's servers experienced a prolonged downtime that affected all of the game's infrastructure, from a DDoS attack carried out by the relatively new PoodleCorp hacking group.
Most DDoS attacks on games do not focus on damaging servers or blackmailing company, but more to annoy the players.
Just as Lizard Squad has been attacking the Xbox and PSN network in recent years, hackers have been thinking of hitting Pokemon GO's infrastructure to laugh at the reactions of its players.

The servers were back to normal a few hours later. The legitimacy of the attack was called into question a few hours later when Nintendo announced that it had launched the game in 26 more countries.
The new countries will soon experience the Pokemon GO hysteria according to a company announcement are Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Greenland, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden and Switzerland.
