On Saturday night, astronomers working on the world's most powerful radio telescope, the MeerKAT, έθεσαν σε δοκιμαστική mode 16 satellite dishes of the radio telescope and published the first image from it.
The first test results were incredible. While it only works with a quarter of the 64 dishes it will eventually include the MeerKat, the telescope was able to find 1300 new galaxies in a small corner of the universe, where we previously knew there were only 70 galaxies.
That's it MeerKat, is located about 350 miles north of Cape Town in South Africa. When it will be placed and its 64 satellite dishes will be the most powerful telescope in the world.
It will be one of the two main groups of radio telescopes included in the SKA (Square Kilometer Array). That BE is a global set of satellite dishes synchronized with each other, the 2020 year will reach the number of 3000 and will be titled the most sensitive radio telescope in the world.
MeerKat will help astronomers study everything from black holes and dark ενέργεια για την ανάπτυξη του πρώιμου σύμπαντος περίπου 13 δισεκατομμύρια χρόνια πριν. Η πρώτη εικόνα από το MeerΚat απεικονίζει διάφορους γαλαξίες με τεράστιες μαύρες τρύπες στο κέντρο τους, καθώς και ένα galaxy located about 200 million light years away.
