The Swiss file hosting company RapidShare is winding down on March 31 after about 12 years modes. For those who remember, the company has been the go-to service for sharing warez files since its inception.
However, legal problems forced her to "clean" her servers from illegal files, and to change the reward system she used. The company offered a bonus to the uploader, every time someone downloaded their file.
After all this, the pirates began to leave the company, and its managers thought of switching to Cloud services.
It seems that the company's attempt in recent years to remain a cloud storage service has been unsuccessful. Many different companies like Dropbox, the Google and Microsoft offer online storage for personal use at much lower prices.
For comparison purposes, RapidShare charges approximately 680 dollars a year for 300GB storage in Cloud. Dropbox charges 99 dollars a year for 1TB.
