Turkish police have seized an iPhone used by the terrorist who killed the Russian ambassador in Turkey, Andrei Karlov and apparently trying to crack the 4-digit code protecting it.
MacReports reports that the device ήταν ένα iPhone 4s με μια άγνωστη έκδοση του iOS. Οι Τούρκοι researchers they try to open the device in order to gain access to the information stored for any evidence related to terrorist activity inside the country.
Breaking iPhone protection has proven to be particularly difficult as the FBI itself tried last year to unsuccessfully break the device used by one of San Bernardino's terrorists. If you remember the FBI had then asked Apple to help since it could not unlock the device, but Cupertino refused to open the iPhone.
This time, it is not yet clear whether Turkey contacts Apple to help with the research, but even if it comes, Cupertino will probably refuse any help.
On the other hand, Russia has already sent a team of security experts to Turkey to test some alternatives hacking methods. All efforts have been unsuccessful so far, but the two countries will not give up until they crack the iPhone.
What is important to note is that iPhome 4S is much easier to tamper with as it does not use the advanced encryption systems available on the latest iPhones. It is likely that an old iOS version will run, and security experts could export the stored data.
