Samsung phones and tablets seem to contain some spyware that communicates regularly servers in China.
A Publication on reddit mentions a known feature called Device Care and it is available on all Samsung phones and tablets.
As Samsung itself confirms, the "Storage" module of Device Care "powers the 360", but does not give information about what information the phone sends to China.
Qihoo 360 is the company to which Samsung refers, and has allegedly been involved in various illegal data collection scandals.
The user who started the reddit post says that working with such a company and having access to all of their data devices is extremely dangerous.
"To "Storage” module στο τηλέφωνό σας έχει πλήρη πρόσβαση σε όλα τα προσωπικά σας δεδομένα (καθώς αποτελεί μέρος του συστήματος) και στέλνει αυτά τα δεδομένα στην κυβέρνηση της China όταν απαιτείται".
A closer look at Device Care's "Storage" module reveals that when it's started, the feature communicates with several servers in China, although it's currently unknown what data it's sending.
"Unfortunately I wasn't able to analyze exactly what was transferred to the servers since I would have to do a man in a middle attack on my phone which requires root access," the researcher reports.
Blocking Device Care, meanwhile, requires root access. Samsung customers have already started posting in the official forums a request to remove the Qihoo 360 software from Device Care.
