No, this is not sexist news, we just did not expect it. Sony reported that Female Playstation console owners have grown dramatically since the PS1 era, significantly expanding Sony's gaming audience.
In a presentation to its investors, the Japanese giant noted that about 41% of PlayStation 5 and PS4 owners are women. Compare that to just 18 percent on the PS1, and you'll notice a clear demographic increase for female consoles.
On the other hand, this increase highlights the importance of rich, varied content in the gaming industry. The Play Station Studios has done a great job of diversifying in recent years, introducing strong female leads such as Aloy at Horizon Zero Dawn and chloe frazer in Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.
On the other hand it is great to see that more and more people to play digital games, as more users means more investment, and ultimately, better games and services for all of us. Sony notes that the expansion of demographics data in terms of age, gender and geography, all present growth opportunities for the company.
