The last data breach reported in June resulted in report 1.3 million identities. That number may seem small compared to the 145 million exposed in the largest breach in May. However, while the report was made in June, this breach also took place during the month of May. This brings the total number of identities exposed in May to over 147 million, ranking May as the second worst month for databreaches in the last 12 months.
There was an average of 88 spear-phishing attacks per day in June. This shows the return of spear-phishing levels to those observed in the months of May and April, after falling back on average in May.
A relatively new OSX threat with the name OSX.Stealbit.B was at the top of Symantec's OSX malware list, which is responsible for 25,7% of threats found on OSX systems. This threat is looking for specific bitcoin-related software on OSX computers and will try to modify programs to steal bitcoins.
The number of Android variants per threat family has reached the lowest levels in the last twelve months. Although there has been no significant change in the number of threat families found in June, it may indicate that attackers have been more successful with current threats, so their need to create multiple variations has diminished.
June was a quiet month in terms of vulnerabilities, as (only) 438 vulnerabilities were reported - being the lowest number reported in the last 12 months. Also, there were zero-day vulnerabilities that were revealed during the month.
