Tor Browser 8.5 for Everyone + the first stable version for Android

The Tor Project has announced the release of Tor Browser 8.5 for all supported operating systems. The new version of Tor Browser comes with important security fixes and is the first stable version released for the Android system.

Tor Browser

The Tor is based on Firefox's ESR code. The Mozilla Foundation released Firefox 67 and a new ESR version 60.7.0 on Tuesday.

The new version of Firefox added new features to the browser and fixed various security issues, including two critical vulnerabilities that affected Tor Browser.

The new version of Tor Browser 8.5 is available for download on all supported operating systems Windows, Linux and Mac OS, on the official website.

Tor Browser 8.5 for Android Tor, which is the first stable version, is through Google Play. The browser developers promise that we will soon see it on F-Droid, an alternative Android App Store.

The "provides essentially the same protections that can be found on desktop platforms" although there are some "feature gaps" according to a post on the official blog of Tor.

We made sure that there are no proxy bypasses, that first-party isolation is enabled to protect you from cross-site tracking, and that most of the fingerprinting defenses are working. While there are still feature gaps between desktop and Android Tor Browser, we are confident that Tor Browser for Android provides essentially the same protection that can be found on desktop platforms.
