The fourth point release of Ubuntu 20.04 LTS is available for download. Ubuntu 20.04.4 LTS has been released in a new installation ISO that contains all the major security updates, bug fixes, and application updates released to Ubuntu 21.04 since the first release of Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS in August 2021.
Periodic updates to the installation ISO are a must in the long-term supported versions (LTS) as they reduce the number of updates after a new installation.
If you are already using Ubuntu LTS 20.04 and you install all the updates, you do not have to reinstall the operating system. You already have everything included in the new ISO.
The Linux kernel 5.13 is the big lure of this version. It brings several modifications including better support for EXT4, a new cooling driver for modern Intel processors and better support for peripherals such as the Apple Magic Mouse 2 and the GK6X mechanical keyboard.
Other updates that come with the new ISO include GNOME Shell 3.36.8, LibreOffice 6.4.7.2, and Mozilla Firefox 97.
