Hackers breached University of Maryland systems and obtained data belonging to more than 300.000 people associated with the university and its College Park and Shady Grove campuses.
Details of faculty, student and various staff members have been exposed by this breach better safetys. The stolen data includes social security numbers, names, dates of birth and university numbers identities, as he says ehackingnews.
The attackers managed to gain access to a base database containing information dating back to 1998. .Other than stealing the data, the hackers did not do any damage to the server that hosted the website.
Wallace D. Loh, President of the University, says they are looking into the security breach in cooperation with the authorities and that they will try to do their best to prevent such attacks in the future.
