After the release Windows 10, Microsoft released updates for Windows 7 and Windows 8, which increase the data collected by adding more telemetry input points to these operating systems. You should be aware that updates to Windows 7 also come with Telemetry updates.
If you are not happy with the practice of collecting and sending any form of data to Microsoft, no matter what the company claims about exactly what it collects and for what purpose, you should know that in the Windows 7 KB3068708, KB3075249 and KB3080149 there is an increase in telemetry collection data.
If, on the other hand, you do not want to lose the rest of the upgrades contained in the above versions, then the solution is to install them and disable the option “Customer Experience Improvement Program” (Customer Experience Improvement Program – CEIP). When disabled, it prevents telemetry data from being collected and sent to Microsoft. This can be checked using Sysinternals TCPView which with CEIP disabled shows no Windows 7 traffic to Microsoft servers.
Below you can see how to completely disable the Customer Experience Improvement Program in Windows 7.
1. Open it Control panel
2. go to Control Panel \ System and Security \ Action Center
3. To the left, click Change Action Center settings.
4. On the next page, scroll down and click the link Customer Experience Improvement Program.
5. A dialog box will appear asking: Do you want to participate in the Customer Experience Improvement Program? Select the option No, I do not want to join the program, as shown in the figure below, then click Save changes.
Additionally, you can disable some tasks on your work schedule.
1. Go to Control Panel \ System and Security \ Tools managements \ Schedule of tasks.
2. Open the following folder Task Schedule> Task Schedule Library> Microsoft> Windows> Application Experience
3. Disable the following tasks:
- AitAgent
- ProgramDataUpdater
Just right click on each of them and in the menu select “Ansactivation”, as shown below.
4. Now, go to the following folder: Task Schedule Library> Microsoft> Windows> Customer Experience Improvement Program
5. Disable the following tasks:
- Consolidator
- KernelCeipTask
- UsbCeip
After that, the telemetry feature will not resend data to Microsoft.
