The administrators of the uTorrent forum have published a security advisory on their website, warning users of an intrusion into their forum database. The unknown attacker managed to steal the information of uTorrent forum users, along with the hashed codes accesss.
uTorrent is a popular BitTorrent client, which was created by Ludvig Strigeus and then acquired by BitTorren Inc. Just like any software application, the project team runs a forum on their website where users can ask questions, read announcements, or get in touch with the developers.
Two days ago, on June 6th, the uTorrent team announced that their forum was hacked, which was first reported to them by the vendor of the forum software they use.
Το uTorrent τρέχει ένα forum IP.Board στην cloud-based service που παρέχεται από την Invision Power Services.
So IPB informed that one of its customers was hit and thus the attacker was able to escalate his access to other Invision customers, including the uTorrent account.
Η εταιρεία δήλωσε στην uTorrent ότι ο εισβολέας κατάφερε να κατεβάσει πληροφορίες των χρηστών του forum. Προς το παρόν δεν είναι γνωστό τι δεδομένα απέκτησε ο hacker ή οι hackers, αλλά η ομάδα του uTorrent θεωρεί ότι όλοι οι passwords are at risk, even if they were hashed (encrypted).
“As a precautionary measure, we advise our users to change their passwords…. Any uses the same forum password and elsewhere it is strongly recommended that you update your passwords and this practice for your personal safety.”
The uTorrent forum has more than 385.000 registered users.
