The use of wearable devices will allow its employees ς να απευθύνονται ονομαστικά στους επιβάτες, να τους ενημερώνουν με πληροφορίες σχετικά με την πτήση, να έχουν πρόσβαση σε πληροφορίες όπως οι καιρικές συνθήκες στον τόπο προορισμού ή ακόμη και να μεταφράζουν πληροφορίες σε οποιαδήποτε ξένη γλώσσα.

virgin-atlantic-google-glassThe airline company Virgin Atlantic has announced that it will use the innovative gadgets, and Sony Smartwatch, at the passenger reception at London Heathrow Airport.

The use of Google Glass and Sony Smartwatch will be made by the employees of the company responsible for the reception of passengers in the Upper Class Wing. For the implementation of the program, Virgin collaborates with SITA, a specialized computerized airline company.

The use of wearable devices will enable company employees to address passengers with information, flight information, access to information such as weather at the destination, or even translate information in any foreign language.

More specifically, her staff Virgin will have it Google Glass or Sony SmartWatch 2, both of which will provide access to an SITA application that will be linked to the airline's passenger service system. This application will manage the assignment of work and the availability of each employee. This will "go" the appropriate information to the responsible employee, which will be displayed on some of the wearable devices.

The use of Google Glass and Sony Smartwatch will start pilot for six weeks and then evaluate the benefits for both passengers and the company before the program is implemented in a wider context. In the future, these technologies could give Virgin the ability to "store" information on the gastronomic tastes of passengers to offer even more personalized services.

The wearable device program replaces the existing system of servicing passengers traveling through the Upper Class Wing, i.e. the privileged entrance to Heathrow for "upper class" passengers. He preceded in which the preferences of 10.000 passengers from all over the world were analyzed for the future of air transport. This research showed that although travel speeds increased, the "experience" of travel decreased.

Other technology exploitation program, from Virgin and SITA, is the test of iBeacon, a low-power Bluetooth transmitter that sends alerts to nearby devices with Apple's iOS. Notifications are about service delivery, possible discounts and updates on upcoming flights.
