If you try to install Firefox or Chrome on upcoming version of Windows 10 you will notice that the installation is interrupted by the operating system.
The screen that stops the installation reports that Microsoft Edge is already installed on the device and that it is safer and faster than the browser you want to install.
The options offered by the company are to open Microsoft Edge or to proceed with the installation. There is also the option to disable this type of warnings in the future, but it leads to the list of applications in Settings and you will not find an option that does what the previous screen says!
Of course it could be Microsoft testing since the upcoming release is only available for Insiders, but there is a chance to see this feature in the final release of the next Windows 10 as well.
Companies such as Google and Microsoft have at times used their dominant market position to promote their own products. Google promotes Chrome for example when the users χρησιμοποιούν διαφορετικά προγράμματα περιήγησης για να συνδεθούν σε λογαριασμούς της εταιρείας, ενώ η Microsoft εμφανίζει ειδοποιήσεις στην platform του Windows 10 σε χρήστες που χρησιμοποιούν άλλα προγράμματα περιήγησης except of the Edge.
However, blocking the installation of other browsers on Windows puts Microsoft at a very low level. The company claims that Edge is safer and faster and gives the Open Microsoft Edge button as the first option and then "Install anyway" (see dark patterns)
