Windows 11 Edge was released through the Microsoft Store

It looks like Microsoft is finally ready to release Microsoft Edge updates directly through it – or at least, a trial which is already available in the Windows 11 Microsoft Store.

As you probably know, Windows 11 comes with a new one Microsoft Store and allows developers to publish Win32 applications. These desktop applications are now compatible with the Windows Store and have been optimized for both Windows 10 and Windows 11.edge store

In other words, you will soon be able to download browsers, the , VLC media player and many other desktop apps through the Store. Starting today, Windows 11 Insiders can already download and install Chromium-based Microsoft Edge from the redesigned store.

With one click, the browser will download quickly to your computer. However, it appears that the Store is only downloading the Edge installer. To complete the installation process, the Microsoft Store states that users will need to open another window and Edge bits will be downloaded from outside the Store.

The Store in Windows 11 also allows users to download web plugins for Microsoft Edge. In the preview version, typing “Edge” in the bar of the Microsoft Store will feature some new extensions designed for the browser.

The current plugin store is not going to leave, which means that users will be able to download extensions from both stores.

According to the support docs, all Chromium-based browsers will be allowed, so it's possible that browser apps , Brave, Vivaldi and others based on Chromium will soon arrive in the Windows 11 app store.

Mozilla has also stated that it intends to release Firefox through the Windows 11 store.

In addition to Edge, Microsoft also brings Notepad and Paint applications to the Store. Popular applications become separate applications that can be updated from the Microsoft Store rather than Windows updates.
