On this day, March 10, 1972, Eugene Roshal (pronounced Eugene Roshal), the Russian creator of the RAR compression algorithm (RoshalARchiver) who offered us the WinRAR, the popular archiver and data compression program for MS Windows in RAR format.
In chronological order the creations of the developer:
- 1993: created the RAR file format
- 1995: WinRAR file archiver
- 1996: FAR file manager
The owner of the compression algorithm is his brother Alexander, because Eugenios, as he stated, did not have time to deal with software development and copyright at the same time.
Besides its popularity among Windows users for its simplicity of use (in later versions) it is well known as the first software given with a free 40-day trial, the expiration of which does not affect its functionality!
Practically, the user can use it for personal use for life and this to the knowledge of the company as a response to piracy, and in fact with the purpose as it states, to protect users from using a pirated and possibly dangerous for them version.
So let us wholeheartedly wish him happy and creative birthday!
Encouragement: do not remove the software because it is Russian :)
