Detekt: One tool aimed at journalists and human rights activists who want their computers safe from known tracking spyware has been launched by Amnesty International, in collaboration with organizations in the technology and human rights fields.
According to Amnesty International, the Detekt is the first publicly available tool that detects "tagged" preletterspyware on computers, some of which are used by government agencies.
"Governments are increasingly using dangerous and sophisticated technology that allows them to read the private emails of activists and journalists and remotely activate their camera or microphone computer, in order to secretly record their activities. They are using technology in a cowardly attempt to avoid criticism from possible exposure," says Marek Marcinski, Amnesty International executive.
“Detekt is a simple tool that will alert activists to these types of intrusions so they can take action. It is a counterattack against governments that use information which have been acquired through surveillance to arbitrarily detain, illegally arrest and even torture human rights activists and journalists,” he adds.
Detekt was developed by Claude Guarneri and was launched by Amnesty International in collaboration with Digitale Gesellschaft, Electronic Frontier Foundation and Privacy International.
