Emmett: 11-year-old hacks election platform in 10 ′

Emmett Brewster at DEFCON: Last Friday, an 11-year-old managed to bypass her security election platform of the United States and change the results, within 10 minutes.

Yes, the incredible happened at this year's DEFCON, where too many children were given the chance to violate an expensive model of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website.Emmett

According to the representatives of DEFCON, children had at their disposal 13 copies of websites of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, from different states. 11time Emmett Brewster was able to hack one of these in 10 minutes.

Emmett was one of the 50 children aged between 8 and 16 years of attending a special children's lab at this year's hacker conference. According to Quartz, children were able to change things on bogus websites, such as ballot papers, candidate names and track names.

The National of Secretaries of State, the organization behind the American public election system issued the following statement on hack:

Our main concern with the approach taken in DEFCON is that it uses a pseudo-environment that is in no way state election systems. Providing conference attendees with voting machines, most of which are no longer in use, does not mean they are the exact machines used by before but also on election day. We are also concerned because creating "fake" networks of voting systems and voter registration databases for hacking by participants is unrealistic.

However, the exact rep of the physical environment of an online polling station was not exactly the point of the exercises. The goal was to focus on the flaws that participants discovered and demonstrated at DEFCON.

Nico Sell, founder of the nonprofit Asylum r00tz, which teaches White Hat hacking children, told PBS NewsHour that the defects found by Emmett and other children at the conference were "real."

They are very accurate copies of all webpages. These things should not be easy for an 8 age child who will do it within 30 minutes, it is negligence for us as a society.
