Reuters: The highest court of Germany has outlawed a feature that encourages Facebook users to give their contacts to social network, affirming the decisions of the two lower courts.
The Federal Court of the European Communities has ruled that Facebook's 'Friend Finder' feature (finding friends) causes harassment (and more) to users.
In this Facebook feature, users are invited to donate permission in the social network, to pull all the addresses of friends from the electronic mail or from the user's contacts applications.
If a user grants permission, the social network begins sending invitations to non-users of Facebok to sign up for the service.
The court came to the conclusion that this is a misleading marketing practice, confirming the decisions of the two lower courts in Berlin, 2012 and 2014. Those courts ruled that Facebook infringed German data protection law and used unfair commercial practices.
