Google: Drones with internet 40 times faster than 4G LTE

According to a Guardian article, the testing solar on Spaceport America, a facility in New Mexico that previously hosted Virgin Galactic.Google Sunset-at-Spaceport_crop

The project, codenamed "SkyBender", aims to test prototype transceivers and drones that use millimeter wave radio transmissions.
Mln transmissions use the frequency of 28 GHz and although smaller than current 4G technologies, speeds are incredibly fast.

In theory millimeter wave technology can carry multiple gigabits per second, up to 40 times faster than current 4G LTE systems.

To deliver millimeter wave technology, Google is testing high-flying drones (unmanned high-flying aircraft). This is a challenge, and Google is reportedly testing different technologies, such as high-end antennas.

At present, it is very much a theoretical project.

The SkyBender project is part of a small Google Access team that has also undertaken Project Loon, another experiment in providing high-speed Internet. s.

Google is licensed by the FCC to continue these trials until July.
