When you think of Intel, you usually think of computer chips, but it looks like the company has sprung a surprise. Intel today launched a social app for Appliances iOS and Android called Pocket Avatars. The application sends video messages, and uses cartoon avatars to relay your facial expressions.
Intel vice president Mike Bell told TNW that Intel Labs often comes up with new futuristic technologies that never get made. products. But Bell decided that this face tracking app was too good to be released.
The Pocket Avatars application uses your mobile's front camera to write the video and combining the voice with your expressions creates animated avatars. About half of the characters it uses are available for free, and more can be purchased with 0,99 dollars each. Messages can be sent via SMS, e-mail or via Twitter.
While the application may seem outside of Intel's core business, Bell said the company has "every intention of continuing the development and its improvement.”
