The Russian company released Kaspersky Free Antivirus the 2016 in some selected areas and launched the global free app in 2017.
The free app has evolved over time, and today the company's decision to change its name better reflects the sophisticated functionality of the program.
The Kaspersky Security Cloud Free was first released in 2018 and today replaced the classic Antivirus Free solution on Kaspersky's website.
Note that although Kaspersky Free Antivirus is no longer available, it still works and Kaspersky has stated that it has no plans to discontinue support for the program.
The classic free antivirus application offers limited functionality. It offered antivirus protection and could protect your emails and your web browsing side by side.
Kaspersky Security Cloud Free offers better functionality. The application is also available for Android and iOS mobile operating systems and includes Kaspersky Secure Connection VPN service (offers free 200 Megabytes per day but free is free).
Android users can use the free version to better manage the permissions of the applications they install but to remove the unwanted applications from their device.
