In order to promote its products, through closer collaboration with the developer community, Microsoft has decided to open the PowerShell code and allocate it to Linux and MacOS.
PowerShell is one command-line shell για το .NET Framework που χρησιμοποιείται για τη λειτουργία και τη management of system operations. It's similar to Linux's bash (which is also available natively in Windows 10) and is part of Microsoft's effort to become friendlier to open source software.
So the company opened the .NET kernel 2014 and released the 1.0 version in June of this year.
The base of the code will be common to all operating systems and will be available under MIT license in GitHub.
Additionally, Microsoft has ported PowerShell Editor Service on Linux so that it can be integrated into text editors for programming and debugging.
The company notes that this initial version is still in "Alfa" condition.
Those who are interested and want to try open source version of PowerShell they can find it in the repository of PowerShell at GitHub, or at Learning PowerShell Microsoft repo.
