Microsoft tries to improve some of the existing technologies with new ones if they prove to be better. The so called program Hyperlapse was announced last year by Microsoft Research and is designed to remove camera shake when capturing video on a smartphone.
Basically, Microsoft Research's Hyperlapse is researching some kind of advanced optics optimizations that will apply not only to Microsoft's Lumia smartphones, but will be applicable to any camera from any brand.
At the moment not many smartphones have their cameras use the OIS function (optical image stabilization), or in Greek optical stabilization pictures. This function can provide a smooth video recording experience when the person operating the smartphone is in motion (running or walking).
However, with Hyperlapse, Microsoft Research hopes to be able to reconstruct the camera's motion in "flickering" video, as well as the distance and angle relative to what is happening in each frame.
The project originally started as a way to stabilize images taken with GoPro cameras while on the go, but Microsoft has found it can be applied to any smartphone
