Slax is quite a popular distribution Linux η οποία δημιουργήθηκε και συντηρείται από τον Tomas Matejicek. Ήταν μία από τις πρώτες distributions that were built on top of Slackware, but lately it seems to no longer be actively developed by its creator.
To be more precise, it has been about four years since we saw a large release of the Slax distribution.
The creator of the distribution was and remains a follower of philosophy KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid) but as we mentioned above he probably got tired of being consistent in his development project.
But according to a post on the project blog, a new version of the distribution will be released soon.
But hold on:
This time the new distribution will not be based on Slackware but on Debian. Why; Let's see what Tomas Matejicek said:
"The main decision I had to make was to quit Slackware, or stop relying on Slackware."
"I'm sorry for Slack's friends. The reason is simple: laziness. To prepare Slax from Slackware, I have to fix the kernel with aufs, configure it, recompile etc etc. Then I have to compile software from different sources, deal with dependencies etc. ο.κ. I used to do it in the past, but not now. So I chose a different base for Slax and it is, get ready, hold on, hold on, Debian. ”
The reasons for this change and other technical details of the upcoming version of Slax may be found on the project blog.
