The well-known hacktivist group Syrian Electronic Army attempted to attack several major websites, including Google, Yahoo, Amazon and Facebook after hacking performed on the service provider's systems managements domain MarkMonitor.
It seems that MarkMonitor stopped the attack before the hacktivist group from Syria did much damage. However, the screenshots which were published by Syrian Electronic Army on Twitter show that they had already acquired access in its management panels MarkMonitor for Google, The Yahoo, The Amazon and Facebook.
Shortly before MarkMonitor technicians detected the attack and managed to shut down the management panel to prevent the hackers from taking further action, SEA published a screenshot showing that they had already started changing the data of Facebook.
The picture shows that the addresses of the registrants had changed with one from Damascus. The message accompanying the screenshot states, "Happy Birthday Mark! Facebook.com belongs to SEA. "
